Section "Knowledge, Literature and Media"

The section will deal with perspectives and problems of the history and poetics of knowledge. It will therefore initially focus on historical constellations in which literary and artistic works, films and digital artefacts, certain forms of staging and performance or mass media communication are provoked, justified or shaped by certain bodies of knowledge (such as political, legal or economic, climate-theoretical, medical or pedagogical knowledge). Conversely, the question should be asked to what extent media (be it storage, administration and recording systems, be it optical and acoustic media or newer digital infrastructures), to what extent collection and organisation practices, certain text genres and formats or rhetorical and narrative strategies play a decisive role in the production and constitution of certain knowledge formations. Against this background and based on the dissertation projects involved, the section will supplement the field of knowledge poetics with related cultural and media studies paradigms (from Actor-Network Theory and Ecocriticism to Queer Studies, Animal Studies and Affect Studies to Medical Humanities or Digital Humanities). The participating supervisors represent the disciplines of Theatre, Film and Media Studies, English and German Studies.
