Travel Grant

Types of Financial Support

The Doctoral School can award travel grants (for travel, accommodation, conference fees etc.) at the following rates:

• max. 150 Euro for destinations within Austria
• max. 300 Euro for destinations within Europe
• max 600 Euro for destinations outside Europe

These rates are set by the University of Vienna. If your particular destination is much further away or there are special costs involved, we recommend that you consider other organisations which may fund travel e.g. the programme 'Internationale Kommunikation' of the ÖFG or the scholarships offered by the BMBF. For more extensive travels there is the possibility of the  'Kurzfristiges Wissenschaftliches Auslandsstipendium' from the International Office of the University of Vienna, or a GO.INVESTIGATIVO from the ÖAW or a Marietta Blau Scholarship from the OeAD.

The payment of the grant takes place after the completion of the travel on presentation of the original receipts (please note that this includes the invoices for accommodation, not just the reservation e-mail) and a travel report (one side A4). 

Application and required documentation 

Deadline: continuous

The application must be submitted at least two weeks before the travel begins to your Head of Section and include the following documents:

• Application form, including the purpose of the travel and plan of the main costs 
• CV
• Letter of Invitation from the host institution or conference organiser or a copy of the conference programme 
• Approval of the Head of the Section (either in the Application form or a short separate e-mail)

Only applications completed and approved before the travel will be accepted. 

A travel grant can only be awarded once per year pro doctoral student.
