Publication Grant
Purpose
One of the goals of the Doctoral School PhilKult is to promote the international visibility of the research outputs of its doctoral students. It thus can make contributions for proof-reading, copy-editing, translations and publication costs for those publications in peer-reviewed journals and essay collections which are considered relevant for the individual doctoral thesis. The contribution is capped at 500 Euro per publication.
Eligibility
You will need to have completed your ‘FöP’ (Public Presentation of your research topic) and have a Doctoral Thesis Agreement. Your main supervisor must be at the University of Vienna. In addition, your Annual Progress Reports should be up-to-date (i.e. one per year) and you will be involved in the DocSchool in some way by, for example, attending events organised by your section or organising your own activities.
How often can I apply?
You can only apply for a grant towards publication costs once during the course of your doctoral studies.
Money
The maximum amount you can apply for in this grant scheme is €1000.
How do I apply?
There are no deadlines. You can apply for a publication grant throughout the year.
Applications should contain the following documents:
- completed application form
- detailed abstract laying out relevance of the article for the dissertation project as well as the choice of the respective journal or essay collection
- your current c.v. with list of academic achievements to date (prizes, conference papers, publications etc.) and current employment
- written confirmation from the publishers, translator, proof-reader etc. about their services
- brief evaluation by the main doctoral supervisor of the relevance of the planned publication for the dissertation project and its quality (complexity of the topic, methodological rigour, significance for the field etc.)
Please send the completed and signed application in a SINGLE PDF-document to: ds.philkult@univie.ac.at
Organising Reimbursement
You can only organise the reimbursement for your costs after payment (unless the provider has an association with the University of Vienna and is prepared to send an invoice i.e. accept payment after billing). We can only reimburse actual receipts or invoices. Please keep all your original receipts until you have received the reimbursement of your costs.
Those PraeDoc Assistants and Project Researchers who are employed by the University of Vienna and have access to HRFI can apply for reimbursement themselves online. Self-Supporting doctoral students are kindly requested to send the completed application form with the receipts as well as your private home address and bank details (name on account, name of bank, IBAN number) to ds.philkult@univie.ac.at. In the case of invoices, please contact the Coordinator.
Applications which are not filled in correctly will be refused, so it is also in your best interests to follow the instructions laid out here and in the Budget Regulations of the DocSchool PhilKult.
